In response, Sri Lanka began strongly, with Kusal Mendis scoring a rapid 56 off just 31 deliveries. However, Tanvir Islam's left-arm spin turned the tide, as he claimed 5 wickets for 39 runs, dismantling the Sri Lankan middle order. Despite a valiant 78-run effort from Janith Liyanage, Sri Lanka was bowled out for 232 in 48.5 overs.
This victory marked Bangladesh's first-ever ODI win in Colombo, setting the stage for a decisive third match in Pallekele on Tuesday.
