Amanda Anisimova has secured a spot in her first Grand Slam final after a remarkable victory over world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the Wimbledon semifinals. The 23-year-old American, seeded 13th, triumphed 6–4, 4–6, 6–4 in a gripping three-set match on Centre Court.
This win marks a significant comeback for Anisimova, who had taken a hiatus from professional tennis in May 2023 due to mental health challenges. Her previous best performance at a major was reaching the semifinals of the 2019 French Open at age 17.
The match was briefly halted during the first set when a spectator suffered a heat-related illness. Sabalenka displayed commendable sportsmanship by assisting the fan with water and an ice pack.
Anisimova's victory improves her head-to-head record against Sabalenka to 6–3, avenging a previous loss at the French Open earlier this year. She will face either Iga Swiatek or Belinda Bencic in the final on Saturday.
